Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Catholic University closed out the Landmark Conference's historic day at the Palestra with a 94-47 victory over the Goucher Gophers on Saturday night. The Cardinals took advantage of the opportunity to play in the historic venue, getting contributions from all sides as 15 different players scored in the win. Sophomore Sean Neylon was lights out in the win, scoring 24 points while knocking down six threes. Brian Herbert just missed a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes.
The Cardinals took a 12-2 lead in the first 5:27 as Neylon, Colby Martins, and Jake Timby all hit early threes. The Gophers answered with a 12-0 run, taking a 14-12 lead with 10:25 remaining in the first half. From there, the Cardinals outscored the Gophers 80-35. Dan Buckley put Catholic back in the lead just 15 seconds after falling behind with a three-pointer. Leading 19-16 with 7:47 left in the first half, Catholic ripped off a 13-0 run to double up the Gophers. Neylon hit a pair of threes before Jack Kouba drilled a triple at the 5:02 mark to make it 32-16.
The Cardinals kept knocking down shots and a Jake Melady three with 31 seconds left in the first sent Catholic to halftime with a 45-24 lead. 10 of the Cardinals' 16 first-half makes came from beyond the arc.
Catholic opened the second half with a 7-0 run and another Neylon three to push the lead to 28. Neylon's final bucket of the contest came at the 17:05 mark as he hit another three to give him the last 11 Catholic points and push the lead into the 30's for the first time.
With 11:07 to play, CJ Ruoff hit a triple and the lead grew to 32. It would never dip back below as Justin Green's bucket just over a minute later pushed the lead to 36. With less than three minutes to play, Ruoff and Jack Fitzpatrick hit back-to-back threes to push Catholic ahead by 42.
Catholic got 48 points from its bench, including a career-high nine from Fitzpatrick and 10 from Timby.
Catholic's 17 three-pointers made tied a season-high, matching its effort against Mt. Aloysius. 44 rebounds also matches a season-high for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will travel to Elizabethtown on Wednesday for their next Landmark Conference contest.
