Box Score TOWSON, Md. — The Catholic University women's basketball team moved to 11-3 on the season with a comfortable victory over Goucher on Tuesday night.
Keegan Douglas converted a layup after an offensive rebound on the opening possession of the game to give Catholic a lead that they would never relinquish.
After a tight first quarter, the Cardinals used a quick 7-0 run to push the lead to 22-11. Catholic took an 11 point lead to the halftime break before opening the game up in the second half.
Senior Rachel Bussanich was dominant in all facets of the game, coming up just two rebounds shy of a double-double. She scored a season-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and shot 6-of-7 from the free throw line, while also contributing five steals and one block on the defensive end.
Three other Cardinals joined Bussanich in double figures as Douglas contributed 15 while Erin Thompson and Amelia Baldo both scored 11, respectively.
Goucher (3-11, 0-3 LC) was led by Kyla Smith and Kyani Quarles who combined for 31 points and 12 rebounds.
A total of 45 fouls were whistled in the contest that saw the teams combined to shoot 50 free throws. Both teams shot 20-of-25 from the charity strip.
Catholic pounded the ball inside early and often, dominating the Gophers in the paint, to the tune of a 38-14 advantage in the painted area. The Cardinals were also able to force 24 turnovers, turning that defensive success into 28 points.
The Cardinals will now gear up for a Landmark Conference tilt with Susquehanna on Friday afternoon. The River Hawks will visit Franny Murray Court for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
