WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's tennis team came up just short on Sunday, falling to Marymount (Va.) 5-4.
The Cardinals won at the top two singles and doubles positions but could not find the decisive win at any of the other spots on the ladder.
Graduate student Brooke Simonson continued her successful start to the season, winning again at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She cruised to victory over Shannon King at love (6-0, 6-0) and combined with Marissa Stambaugh to defeat King and Francesca Louiseau at No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Stambaugh also brought home a victory on the singles court, handling Lili Szobacsi 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Jane Krukiel and Paige Brightwell played to a hard-fought victory at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-5.
After the result, the Cardinals now sit at 2-2 on the season. Catholic will return to action in 12 days time when it travels to Mary Washington for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament. Matches will be played across three days, beginning on Friday, Sept. 30.
