BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Catholic women's tennis team hit the road on Thursday for a Landmark Conference Semifinal match against second-seeded Moravian. The Cardinals battled the Greyhounds at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center, but dropped the match 4-3.
Catholic had strong performances in doubles, winning on courts one and three to secure the point.
Mairead O'Hara and
Ava Niggemeier captured the first win in the three spot, defeating their Moravian opponents 6-3.
Shloka Tambat and
Annie Nemoy won in similar fashion in the one spot, winning 6-3 to give the Cardinals an early advantage.
The fight continued in singles with tough matches across all six courts. Nemoy captured Catholic's second point on court two, defeating Isabella Szmodis in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Niggemeier secured the third point on court six, defeating Madilyn Schottman 6-0, 6-1.
On court four,
Ella Knox battled against Moravian's Sydney Shifman, as the Cardinals looked for the final point. Knox fell to Shifman 5-7 in a close set one, before dropping set two 6-1.
With the score tied at three, it all came down to the five spot.
Meaghan Laniewski matched up against the Greyhounds' Kaelyn Balko, taking her down 6-1 in set one. Balko came back in set two, winning 6-1 to force a third set. The two battled in set three for the match point, but it was Balko who captured the win, 6-2 to solidify Moravian's victory.
Catholic closes out the 2025-26 season with an overall record of 13-10 and a Landmark Conference record of 8-1.
