Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Catholic women's tennis team battled against Scranton for the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals fought hard, taking down the Royals in the match, 4-2.
With wins in the one and three spot, Catholic earned the doubles point to take an early advantage. On court three,
Mairead O'Hara and
Ava Niggemeier captured the first win, shutting out their opponent 6-0.
Shloka Tambat and
Annie Nemoy faced off against their Royal opponents on court one, battling hard to pull out the 6-4 victory and secure the doubles point.
In singles, Nemoy defeated her opponent, Gisele Falzone, in straight sets. She took the win in the two spot, 6-0, 6-2. Niggemeier secured Catholic's third point in similar fashion, defeating Nora Pencek in a tough fight in the five spot, 6-4, 6-4.
Meaghan Laniewski secured the winning point for the Cardinals with a three-set victory on the fourth court. Laniewski faced off against Hannah Rowan, falling in the first set 6-1, before coming back to defeat her in the second set, 6-4. Laniewski earned the win in a set three tiebreak, winning 1-0 (10-7).
With this victory, the Cardinals close out the regular season with an overall record of 12-9 and a Landmark record of 8-1. Catholic will be back in action for the Landmark Conference Tournament that begins on Tuesday, April 28.
