WASHINGTON, D.C. - The third-seeded Catholic women's tennis team hosted sixth-seeded Juniata for the First Round of the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals took down the Eagles, 4-0 in the match to advance to the Semifinals.
Catholic took an early lead with two wins in doubles matches on courts two and three.
Ava Niggemeier and
Mairead O'Hara shut out their opponents in the third spot taking the first win, 6-0.
Meaghan Laniewski and
Ella Knox secured the win in the two spot, defeating their Eagle competitors 6-1.
In singles, the Cardinals captured three quick wins to solidify their victory. Niggemeier defeated Skylar Grabarski on court five in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 to lock in the second point.
Ava Kaloustian earned a win in the six spot, shutting out Emma Steinoff with two 6-0 victories.
Laniewski secured the win for Catholic with the fourth point, taking down Katie Wagoner in straight sets on court four. She won 6-1 in the first set before shutting Wagoner out in set two, 6-0.
With this win, the Cardinals improve their record to 13-9 overall this season.
Up next, Catholic will head to Moravian for the Semifinal match of the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament. The Cardinals will take on the second-seeded Greyhounds at 4:00 p.m.
