Women's Tennis Drops Tight One To St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The Catholic women's tennis team fell to St. Mary's (Md.) 6-3 on Saturday afternoon, falling to 2-1 on the season. The Cardinals entered Saturday's tilt with an NCAA Tournament team from a year ago down a few pieces, but battled throughout.

Graduate Brooke Simonson and junior Marissa Stambaugh got things off on the right note for Catholic, battling to win a back-and-forth doubles match, 8-5. Sophomore Paige Brightwell and Sophomore Madison Rollins fell behind big early in three doubles, but grinded out a respectable 8-4 loss despite trailing 7-0.

Rollins dominated at six singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 with a dominant forehand while Simonson was equally dominant, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory in her singles match. Brightwell won 6-4 to start off her singles match before falling 6-1 and 6-0.

Catholic is right back at it on Sunday as they host Marymount (Va.) in the event that will kick-off the 2022-23 Pope's Cup.
