Simonson Wins as Cards Fall to Greyhounds

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's tennis team fell to Moravian, 8-1, at home on Saturday afternoon. 

The Cardinals (6-7, 1-1 LC) were led by senior Brooke Simonson, who won her seventh straight match at No. 1 singles, defeating Moravian's Julianne Cassady 6-2, 6-2.

Simonson combined with senior Liv Sensenbrenner at No. 1 doubles, falling by a break to Greyhound duo Cassady/Morgan Colver (6-8)

Junior Abbey Cassidy dropped her match at No. 2 singles after a tight first set (5-7, 2-6) and combined with sophomore Marissa Stambaugh at No. 2 doubles, falling 1-8.

Sensenbrenner (4-6, 4-6) and Stambaugh (2-6, 1-6) both dropped their singles matches at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, while junior Aubree Narus (2-6, 0-6) and senior Josie Cost (3-6, 0-6) fell at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.

Freshman Paige Brightwell and senior Kathleen O'Connell dropped their match at No. 3 singles to the Moravian duo of Rose Lombardo/Mara Stapleton (2-8).

The Cardinals return to action tomorrow, when they host Landmark Conference rival Elizabethtown in the team's final home match of the season. Opening service is set for 11 a.m. on the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
