HUNTINGDON, Pa. — The Catholic University women's tennis team ended its season with a convincing 8-1 victory over Juniata on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (7-11, 2-5 LC) were led by senior Brooke Simonson, who completed an undefeated spring season at No. 1 singles, downing Juniata's Maggie Ackley at love. She finishes the spring season 12-0 overall and 7-0 against Landmark Conference opponents.
Simonson combined with junior Abbey Cassidy at No. 1 doubles and played to an 8-2 victory. Simonson's two wins marked the 50th and 51st of her career.
Senior Kathleen O'Connell put together an impressive day, not losing a game in either of her matches. Freshman Paige Brightwell and she won at love at No. 3 doubles before she swept her opponent at No. 6 singles.
Senior Olivia Sensenbrenner and sophomore Marissa Stambaugh also delivered two victories each. They combined at No. 2 doubles to defeat the Eagle duo of Olivia Cooley/Lana Dumnick, 8-2. Sensenbrenner was victorious at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0) while Stambaugh took care of business at the No. 4 position (6-3, 6-0).
Junior Aubree Narus also won her singles match in convincing fashion, only dropping two games at the No. 5 position (6-2, 6-0).
