HUNTINGDON, Pa. — The Catholic University men's tennis knocked off Juniata, 5-4, in a tight match to conclude its season on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (4-7, 2-5 LC) made use of two tiebreaks on the doubles courts to edge the Eagles by a single match.
Junior Matt Rudolf and senior Allan Van Nostrand came up big at No. 1 doubles, defeating Eagle challengers Illia Buralkin/Utsav Dhir Deravariya, 8-7(3).
There was nothing to separate Catholic and Juniata at No. 3 doubles, as sophomores Diego Robles-Rivero/Lucas Boyle edged past Nate Whelan/Victor Jung by a single mini-break in a tiebreak, 8-7(8-6).
Van Nostrand won again at No. 1 singles, defeating Buralkin by a break in each set (7-5, 6-4).
Wins by Robles-Rivero and senior David Brennan were enough to get the Cardinals over the line. Brennan won comfortably at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1) while Robles-Rivero was dominant at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-0).
