Cardinals Down Greyhounds, Earn No. 1 Seed

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team earned their seventh Landmark victory of the season on Saturday over Moravian, 21-12, to finish the year undefeated in conference play.

The Cardinals (11-4, 7-0 LC) were led by senior Kevin Crowley who posted a career-high 10 points on six goals and a career high four assists. Crowley highlighted the second quarter with a natural hat-trick in less than two minutes to stretch the Cardinals' lead to nine with 7:39 remaining in the half. 

Junior Danny Fitzgibbons scored the first goal of the afternoon, and the first of his first career hat-trick, less than 90 seconds into the game. After seniors Grady Kuhn and Tynan Hillery connected for the second goal, Moravian cut the lead in half at the 10:38 mark of the first. Catholic then scored six of the next seven goals, including two each by Crowley and classmate Sean Baudo, to take an 8-2 lead after 15 minutes.

Moravian (7-6, 3-4 LC) scored the first goal of the second quarter before the Cardinals went on another five-goal run to push the lead to 10. Senior Archer Rymiszewski also scored in the quarter to add to his two goal, one assist game. Baudo capped the first half with his third goal of the afternoon as he was the third Cardinal to register a hat-trick.

Catholic's senior Chris Novella scored on an extra man opportunity just 12 seconds into the second half as the teams traded goals in the third quarter. Senior Jack McGorry contributed a goal and an assist during the quarter as the Cardinals led 19-8 after 45 minutes. 

Junior Connor Pierce and freshman Pierce Gilden scored in the fourth quarter to provide the final tally for the Cardinals. 

In net, junior Nic Pezone made 13 saves in 60 minutes of play. Meanwhile, Hillery contributed a season-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers while classmate Brendan Dulin also caused a career-high three turnovers. 

Freshman Ryan Macksoud won 12-21 face offs and scooped up nine ground balls.

With the win, the Cardinals earned the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs that begin on Wednesday, May 4. Catholic will host No. 4 Susquehanna on Carlini Field at 4 p.m.
