Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University men's lacrosse junior Nic Pezone made 18 saves as the Cardinals fell to No. 3 Salisbury Wednesday night at Carlini Field, 14-8.
Catholic (10-4) fell for the first time in its last seven games as it welcomed the Sea Gulls to The District for the first time since 2004.
Led by two goals and two assists from Cross Ferrara, Salisbury outscored the Cardinals 10-3 over the second and third quarters to take its largest lead of the night, 14-6. The Sea Gulls also won 9-of-15 faceoffs over that span and scored on both of their extra-man opportunities.
Pezone also totaled 10 of his 18 saves over the second and third.
After Salisbury (15-1) scored the game's first goal with 12:05 remaining in the first quarter, Catholic responded with three of the next four to take a 3-2 advantage when senior Cameron Dunn scored off an assist from senior Chris Novella with 6:09 left.
However, three-straight tallies by the Sea Gulls put the visitors in front to stay, capped by Ferrara's second with 12:14 to play in the second.
Junior Ryan Carroll led the Cardinals offensively with two goals and one assist while senior Sean Baudo had two assists.
Novella added a goal and an assist while finishing with a team-high three caused turnovers, tying him with senior Tynan Hillery who also had five ground balls.
Pezone contributed four ground balls and two caused turnovers as well.
Catholic concludes the regular season on Saturday as it travels to Bethlehem, Pa. for a Landmark Conference contest at Moravian. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
