Simonson Pushes Win Streak to 11, Cards Fall at Drew

MADISON, N.J. - Senior Brooke Simonson won her 11th-straight match at No. 1 singles as the Catholic University women's tennis team fell to Drew on Sunday, 8-1.

The Cardinals (6-11, 1-5 LC) failed to get anything going, quickly falling behind 3-0 after doubles.

Drew (10-8, 7-0 LC) won two of the three doubles matches by a score of 8-0 while senior Olivia Sensenbrenner and sophomore Marissa Stambaugh played the best match at No. 2 before falling, 8-4.

Simonson claimed the team's lone point of the day to remain perfect at the top singles position this spring, defeating Melina Christodoulou in straight sets.

After taking the first set by a break, the second went the distance and the two could only be separated by a single mini-break in the tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8).

Despite a tight first set, Stambaugh dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles.

The Cardinals return to action in their regular-season finale on Saturday, April 30 when they travel to Juniata for a 1 p.m. match with the Eagles.
