MADISON, N.J. - Despite a solid performance from junior Juan Gomez, the Catholic University men's tennis team fell at Drew Sunday, 7-2.
Catholic (3-7, 1-5 LC) struggled against the first-place Rangers who remained unbeaten in seven conference matches this season.
Gomez posted a pair of singles and doubles victories, partnering with sophomore Allan Van Nostrand at No. 1 doubles before the Drew duo of Avi Perera and Bret Schuler had to retire.
Seniors Emmett Lee and David Brennan battled at No. 3 doubles, but were edged by the final score of 8-5.
In singles, Gomez defeated Dan Blumenthal in straight sets at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Matt Rudolf was able to take the first set at No. 3 singles, but dropped the match in three, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.
Aside from Gomez and Rudolf, Drew (16-3, 7-0 LC) only dropped a total of two games in the other four singles matches.
The Cardinals return to action in their regular-season finale on Saturday, April 30 when they travel to Juniata for a 1 p.m. match with the Eagles.
