SCRANTON, Pa. — The Catholic University women's team fell to Scranton on Saturday, 7-2.
The Cardinals (6-10, 1-4 LC) saw both of their victories come on the singles courts, as seniors Brooke Simonson and Olivia Sensenbrenner won in convincing fashion. Sensenbrenner defeated Royal challenger Madison Tratthen at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-1), while Simonson's victory at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2) marked her 10th straight at the top position.
Scranton (8-5, 2-1 LC) were perfect on the doubles courts, only dropping four games across the three doubles matches.
Freshman Paige Brightwell dropped her match at No. 6 singles in straight sets, dropping the second in a tiebreaker.
Junior Abbey Cassidy (No. 2; 1-6, 0-6), junior Aubree Narus (No. 4; 1-6, 0-6) and senior Josie Cost (0-6, 2-6) all came up short in their respective singles matches.
The Cardinals look to return to winning ways tomorrow, when they face Drew in a Landmark Conference bout. Opening service is set for noon at the Drew Tennis Complex.
