School-Record 28 Goals Lead Cards to Sixth-Straight Win

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -  The Catholic University men's lacrosse team posted a school-record 28 goals as the Cardinals won their sixth-straight with a 28-6 win over Juniata on Saturday.

Three players scored four goals to highlight 15 goal-scorers. Senior Joey Rockovich posted four goals and two assists for a season-high six points.

The Cardinals (10-3, 6-0 LC) got off to a fast start as Rockovich and classmate Sean Baudo scored the first of their four goals a piece in the opening 34 seconds of the game. Rockovich and Baudo both posted hat-tricks in the opening 15 minutes.

Senior Mike McShea registered an assist in the first quarter as he won 12-of-13 faceoffs and scooped up 11 ground balls.

Leading 11-2 after the first quarter, Rockovich opened up scoring in the second off an assist from junior Nic Pezone less than a minute in to kick off a 13-0 run.

Eight different Cardinals scored during the run, including seniors Nick Fanelli and Zack Cosentino who registered their first hat-tricks of the season. 

Pezone also registed nine saves and five ground balls on the day as he secured his 10th win.

Catholic converted on three extra-man opportunities in the last 6:30 of the second quarter as Cosentino connected with senior Archer Rymiszewski twice to put the Cardinals ahead 24-2 at halftime.

Junior Jack Micco and freshman John Fitzpatrick McLaughlin both scored in the third quarter while senior Jack McGorry had a goal and an assist.

Freshman Mason Russo registered the first goal of his career in the fourth quarter and also contributed an assist, three ground balls and a career-high two caused turnovers.

The Cardinals were dominant on the faceoff with freshman Ryan Macksoud contributed 11 wins and six ground balls as the team won 28-of-38. The team also held the Eagles (1-12, 0-6 LC) to just 19-of-29 clears on the day.

Catholic returns home to Carlini Field on Wednesday, April 27 as it hosts No. 3 Salisbury for the first time since 2004. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
