Box Score TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team won their 11th-straight Landmark Conference game on Wednesday evening over Goucher, 25-2, to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Cardinals (9-3, 5-0 LC) used a balanced offense of 17 goal-scorers en route to their largest margin of victory of the season. Catholic scored 13 unanswered goals in the second quarter while the team combined for 25-29 faceoff wins.
Senior Kevin Crowley led Catholic with three goals while senior Joey Rockovich and sophomore Mike Mulligan each had three points. In net, junior Nic Pezone made 15 saves while scooping up a ground ball.
Four different Cardinals scored in the first quarter, including two by senior Chris Novella. After scoring the first two goals, Goucher (2-12, 1-4 LC) put their first on the board with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, Catholic closed out the quarter on a three-goal run and never looked back.
Senior Mike McShea went a perfect 10-10 at the faceoff, scooping up 10 ground balls.
Crowley scored two goals in eight seconds to open up the second quarter and a 13-goal stanza. Seniors Matt Scandone and Sean Baudo and junior Connor Pierce all scored two goals while freshman Ryan Macksoud scored his first career goal. Macksoud also went 13-16 from the face-off while scooping up a career-high 11 ground balls.
Senior Archer Rymiszewski scored with one second remaining in the half out of a timeout to cap off a dominating quarter as the Cardinals led 18-1 at half.
After the Gophers opened the third quarter with their second goal with 13:39 remaining, the Cardinals' defense held Goucher scoreless for the remainder of the game. Freshman Mason Russo highlighed the defensive effort with a career-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior Max Schwarz scored two third-quarter goals .
Freshman John Hadden and sophomore Luke Geraghty both scored their first goals of the season in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals stretched their lead to 23.
On the clear, Catholic was a perfect 24-of-24, while the Cardinals limited Goucher to just 29-43 and forced the Gophers into a season high 30 turnovers.
Catholic remains on the road on Saturday when they travel to Juniata for a conference matchup beginning at 4 p.m.
