Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. - 13 different players recorded at least a point as the Catholic University men's lacrosse team posted a 19-10 win over Scranton on Saturday on the road. Every goal was scored by a member of the Cardinals' senior class as 11 different players registered a goal.
Graduate student Kevin Crowley led Catholic (6-3, 2-0 LC) on the offensive end with three goals and a season-high three assists while junior Nic Pezone made a season-high 14 saves and caused one turnover.
Senior Cameron Dunn posted his fifth-straight hat trick and classmate Sean Baudo also scored three times while dishing out two helpers.
The Cardinals scored twice in the opening three minutes to gain a lead that they would not surrender. Four different seniors contributed a goal in the first quarter as Tommy Welch scored the first goal of the game and Pezone made six saves as Catholic led 5-1 after 15 minutes.
Scranton (4-5, 0-2 LC) scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut the Catholic lead to two, but senior Tynan Hillery scored one of his career-high two goals and senior Chris Novella converted on an extra man opportunity to push the lead back to four. Dunn scored and assisted on another to close out the second quarter as the Cardinals led 9-5 at the halftime break.
Mike McShea scored off the first faceoff of the second half as the senior won 14-23 on the afternoon while classmate Nick Fanelli scored on two extra-man opportunities. Defensively, Pezone made five saves and helped Catholic hold Scranton to just one third-quarter goal to extend their lead to 13-6 after 45 minutes.
The fourth-quarter featured 10 combined goals by both teams as six different Cardinals scored. Hillery scored his second and senior Brendan Dulin scored his third goal of the year while Grady Kuhn contributed a goal to go along with one caused turnover.
Juniors Danny Fitzgibbons and Ryan Carroll also contributed assists for the Cardinals on the offensive end of the field.
Junior Colin McDonnell relieved Pezone in the fourth quarter and made three saves as the goalies made a season-high combined 17 saves in the net.
The Cardinals will return to Carlini Field on Saturday, April 9, when they host Elizabethtown. Opening face off is set for 1 p.m.
