Cards Celebrate Senior Day With 25-10 Victory Over Drew

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team picked up its fourth Landmark Conference win of the season on Saturday as the Cardinals celebrated Senior Day with a 25-10 victory over Drew.

The Cardinals (8-3, 4-0 LC) scored a season-high 25 goals against the Rangers which is the team's most since it had 28 against Moravian on April 7, 2021 in a 28-10 victory.

A total of 23 different players had at least a point while 18 found the back of the net. Senior Jack McGorry had a hat-trick and senior Archer Rymiszewski totaled a career-high four assists and five points to lead Catholic who opened the game on a 15-goal run.

Catholic got off to a fast start, leading 8-0 after the first quarter. Six different seniors scored in the opening 15 minutes, including Kevin Crowley and Chris Novella who netted two goals each. Senior Joey Rockovich also had two assists.

The Cardinals scored seven unanswered goals to start the second quarter. McGorry notched a natural hat-trick in one minute, scoring off passes from Rymiszewski, senior Nick Fanelli and senior Zack Cosentino. Senior Thomas Consoli also scored in the quarter as he recorded the first two goals of his career.

Senior Mike McShea won 7-of-11 faceoffs in the first half and scooped up seven ground balls.

Drew (8-5, 2-2 LC) matched Catholic in the second half as the Rangers scored eight second-half goals and goalie Anthony Tufaro made 18 saves.

Sophomore Mike Mulligan highlighted the third quarter, posting a goal and an assist on back-to-back extra-man opportunities. 

Four different Cardinals scored in the fourth quarter, including junior Thomas Albig and freshman Liam Hill who scored the first goal of their career.

Junior Nic Pezone gathered the win in net, posting a shutout with making three saves and three ground balls in 25 minutes. Junior Colin McDonnell played the final 35 minutes, making seven saves while contributing one ground ball.

After the game, McGorry, Rymiszewski, Crowley, Novella, Rockovich, Fanelli, Cosentino, Consoli and McShea were honored along with classmates Sean BaudoCameron DunnGrady KuhnTommy WelchMatthew ClohessyWill BatsonTynan HilleryNolan BrockmeyerBrendan Dulin and Walter Grabeklis.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Goucher for a conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
