Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University softball team took defending Landmark Conference champion Moravian to extra innings in game one, but fell short as the Greyhounds swept a conference doubleheader Sunday.
The Cardinals (10-8, 3-3 LC) were led by sophomore Sophia Fike who totaled four hits, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Graduate student Allie Lajeunesse also drive in two runs while graduate student Makayla Czan and junior Sarah Spaeth each had two hits.
Moravian 10, Catholic 7 (9 innings)
Trailing 7-3, the Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game for the second time, highlighted by a two-run homer from Fike.
Following a pitching change by the Greyhounds, junior Sammy Phillips drove in freshman Amanda Gomez before Lajeunesse tied the game with a sacrifice fly that scored junior Katie Hurd.
After a scoreless eighth, Moravian (18-2, 4-0 LC) scored three runs in the top of the ninth, including the game-winning run on an RBI-single by Maddisen Bieber.
Fike led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, but Madi Cunningham retired the next three batters she faced to pick up the win.
Fike went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored while Spaeth went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth for her first career home run in 50 games and 113 at-bats.
Hurd went the distance inside the circle, allowing just 10 hits and walking only two.

The Cardinals scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third when Lajeunesse hit a two-out single with runners on the corners to score Fike.
The lead was short-lived as the Greyhounds scored three runs in the top the fourth. Cunningham, who made her ninth start of the season in the circle, provided all the run support she would need as she hit a two-run homer down the left field line to put the visitors in front, 2-1.
Victoria Smith followed with a triple before scoring on an RBI-ground out by Holly Walter to push Moravian's lead to 3-1.
Emily Silberman led of the sixth with a solo home run to left to cap the scoring as Cunningham retired the final six batters she faced.
Fike was 1-for-4 with a run while Lajeunesse went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore Justina Benvenuto took the loss, scattering 10 hits over 7.0 innings while striking out three. She did not allow a walk.
Catholic returns to action on Wednesday with a non-conference doubleheader at No. 2 Salisbury. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
