Hudson's Career Day Helps Catholic Defeat Drew in Morning Matchup However, Cardinals Fall Short Against Moravian in Landmark Tourney

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Cardinals traveled up to host school Moravian University to compete in the Landmark Conference Tournament. Second seeded Catholic took on third seeded Drew to capture their first win of 2026 Landmark Tournament in a quick five innings. In the afternoon, the Cardinals were unable to battle back from an early deficit against the first seeded Greyhounds.

CATHOLIC 8, DREW 0

After receiving Landmark first team honors yesterday, senior Aubrynn Arcement earned the start in the circle. She quickly proved why, striking out the leadoff Ranger looking. In the bottom of the first Sam Grillo and Emma Fleming lead off with back-to-back singles, threatening early runs. The Rangers shut the offense down catching a pair of balls in the outfield and opting to get the lead runner at third.

Catholic put themselves on the board first in a big way in the bottom of the second. Katie McHugh started the offense with a leadoff double, advancing on a left field single from Kerri Hatcliffe. Hayden Hudson busted the game open with a bases clearing double on an 0-2 count. The Cardinals continued to put pressure on the Rangers, allowing Geneva Webber to get on due to an error from the first baseman. Webber advanced with her 14th stolen base of the year, allowing Hudson to score the third run of the game. After two complete, Catholic held an early 3-0 lead.

In the top of the third, senior Arcement produced three groundouts, one of which Fleming made a diving stop to keep the Rangers off the basepath. In the bottom of the inning, Arcement helped herself and started the inning with a single through the left side to start the offense for the Cardinals in the third. McHugh worked her count, seeing eight pitches, before she earned her 22nd walk of the season. Freshman Hudson continued her stellar day with a homer poked over the center field wall, doubling the Catholic lead.

The Cardinals kept their foot on the gas pedal in the fifth, attempting to end the game short. Hatcliffe reached first on an error, allowing pinch runner Olivia Brousseau to make an appearance. Hudson singled to left, advancing to second. Webber loaded the bases with a single to the shortstop. Sam Grillo sent the seventh run of the game scoring with her sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Brousseau. One run away from the win, Fleming stepped into the box. The sophomore capitalized on an error, allowing teammate Hudson to score. With Hudson's run the Cardinals secured the 8-0 five inning win and remained in the winner's bracket. Catholic then awaited the result of Wilkes and Moravian to see who the crew would take on in the evening.

MORAVIAN 7, CATHOLIC 4

Catholic took on Moravian in the second game of the day, hoping to earn a win and advance straight to the championship game.

Sophia Colangelo started the game in the circle, collecting the first out from the leadoff batter. After Catholic gave up five runs on five hits and an error, Arcement returned to the circle for the team.

Moravian's offensive run in the bottom of the first did not put a damper on the Cardinal fight. Arcement was patient in the box, earning herself a leadoff walk. Katie McHugh made the walk hurt when she sent a shot over the center field wall to put two Catholic runs on the board. Hudson continued her tournament tear with a double to left field, but was unable to score before the side retired.

In the bottom of the inning, Arcement forced a ground ball out of the batter, resulting in a groundout. Despite giving up a single, the Cardinal defense was able to turn a 463 double play to close out the second.

Fleming started the third off with an infield single, forcing the Greyhounds shortstop to dive to keep it in the dirt. This prompted a pitching change, putting Sarah DeStefano on the rubber. Stinchcomb was not fazed with the switch, sending a single out to left field. Katie Scolese and Arcement attempted to continue the pattern with a ball to the left, but Moravian opted to get the lead runner both times. With two outs and two runners on, McHugh grounded out to short to close out the top half of the third. In the bottom of the inning, Arcement and her defense produced a quick inning with three groundouts.

Hatcliffe led off the fourth with a single down the left field line, followed by Hudson's second hit of the game up the middle. Webber made it on when Moravian opted to get the lead runner Hatcliffe out at third. On a passed ball with Grillo in the box, Hudson attempted to steal, but the Greyhounds successfully picked her off at third. The Cardinals were once again unable to convert after putting multiple runners on.

In the bottom of the fifth, Moravian tacked on another run, moving its lead to 6-2. Catholic was able to answer in the top of the sixth. Arcement led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third when McHugh landed down a sacrifice bunt. Hatcliffe grounded out to short, but it allowed Arcement to score. After six and a half, the Cardinals trailed 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Greyhounds added an insurance run, keeping the game just out of reach for the Cardinals.

Catholic tried to battle back in the top of the seventh, with Grillo leading things off with a single up the middle. The senior then followed it up with a stolen base to second and then advancing to third on a wild pitch. Fleming walked to put Cardinal runners on the corners. Stinchcomb scored Grillo with a sacrifice fly to center. The Cardinals ultimately fell 7-4 against the Greyhounds.
