The Cardinals broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, all of which were unearned. With runners on first and second, junior Heather Berberich reached first on an error, allowing senior Allie Lajeunesse to score from first for the game's first run.
With junior Sarah Spaeth on third, Berberich stole second before both eventually scored on two wild pitches.
Catholic scored three runs on just one hit in the inning while stealing two bases and taking advantage of three walks to take a 3-0 lead.
The Bears (1-1) scored one run in the sixth and one in the seventh on RBI singles with two outs, but Hurd managed to close the door each time, escaping a bases loaded situation in the sixth with a line out to first.
Four different Cardinals had one hit apiece, including sophomore Caroline Adams who reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a walk. Sophomore Kaitlyn Murphy also went 1-for-2 in relief of junior Sammy Phillips behing the plate, picking up her first career hit with a single to lead off the bottom of the fifth.
Catholic 4, Misericordia 2 (8 innings)
Benvenuto picked up her third career win, allowing just one earned run over 8.0 innings.
Tied at 1-1 after seven, the game headed to extra innings using the international tiebreaker where the last batter from the previous inning starts the inning in scoring position on second base.
With freshman Toni Ruley on second, senior Makayla Czan advanced her to third with a single through the left side before she scored on a fielder's choice by freshman Amanda Gomez.
Phillips then plated the game-winning runs with a two-run single through the right side to score Gomez and sophomore Sophia Fike.
After a single to left by Miranda Bohn scored Nicole Elliott to pull the Cougars (2-2) within two, Benvenuto retired the next two batters, inducing a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
The Cardinals contine play in The Spring Games with two more games on Wednesday, opening up against Muskingum at 3:15 p.m. before taking on Illinois College at 5:30 p.m.
