Second Half Propels Cardinals over River Hawks, 14-6

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team opened Landmark Conference play with a 14-6 victory over Susquehanna on Saturday at Carlini Field.

With the win, the Cardinals (5-3, 1-0 LC) pushing their conference win-streak to nine.

Seniors Sean Baudo and Cameron Dunn led the Cardinals with three goals each, posting their fourth and fifth hat-tricks of the season, respectively. Dunn also added two assists for a game-high five points.

Catholic never trailed as Baudo scored the game's first goal off an assist from Ryan Carroll just 48 seconds into the game.

The River Hawks (5-5, 0-1 LC) responded just over two minutes later to tie the game before both teams scored once more to send the game to the second tied at 2-2.

With the game tied at 3-3, Dunn and Danny Fitzgibbons each scored just over a minute apart to give the Cardinals the lead which they would not relinquish.

Dunn's second goal with 3:25 remaining in the second sparked an 8-0 run spanning 22 minutes to push Catholic's lead to as many as nine with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Seven different Cardinals netted a goal during the run with Dunn completing his hat trick and senior Brendan Dulin scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from senior Mike McShea

The Cardinals outscored Susquehanna 3-0 in the third and 8-2 in the second half. The defense held the River Hawks to five third-quarter shots.

Junior Jackson Powers had a season-high three caused turnovers while senior Tynan Hillery scooped up a season-high six ground balls. McShea won 17-of-22 faceoffs, scooping up 11 ground balls.

Junior Nic Pezone finished with seven saves to earn the win in goal before being relieved by junior Colin McDonnell who made two saves in the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals will have the week off before returning to the field on Saturday, April 2 on the road at Landmark Conference rival Scranton. Opening face off is set for 2 p.m.
