Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Elizabethtown used an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter en route to a 65-57 victory over the Catholic University women's basketball team Wednesday at Thompson Gymnasium.
The Cardinals (19-3, 10-3 LC), who were ranked fifth in Wednesday's Region V rankings, fell for just the second time in the last 14 games with both losses coming to the Blue Jays. The loss was also Catholic's first in nine road games this season.
Senior Luca Mamula led the team with 14 points, six rebounds, four blocks and two steals in just 24 minutes while senior Amanda Johnson had 13 points, four rebounds, six assists and five steals.
With the game tied at for the fifth time, Elizabethtown scored the game's next 11 points while holding the Cardinals scoreless for over three minutes to take a 55-44 advantage with 6:16 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Led by four points from Johnson, Catholic responded with a quick 6-0 run to cut its deficit to five before later trimming it to four, 61-57, on a three-pointer by junior Erin Doherty with 42 seconds left.
However, that would be as close as the team would get as the Blue Jays hit four of six free throws in the final 35 seconds while Catholic missed on its final five attempts from the floor.
Elizabethtown (19-4, 11-2 LC), who was ranked seventh in Region V, went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the final quarter as they outscored the Cardinals, 21-15.
The Blue Jays finished the game 11-for-17 from the line while Catholic was just 2-for-5. Elizabethtown also held a 54-29 edge in rebounds, scoring 17 second-chance points. The team also held a 46-32 margin in points in the paint.
Junior Erin Thompson finished with 10 points, scoring in double figures for the fourth time in the last five games, including three-straight.
Despite the loss, the Cardinals have secured the third-seed in next week's Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Championship. It marks the team's 11th appearance in the conference tournament in 15 seasons in the Landmark Conference.
Catholic will begin its fourth consecutive tournament appearance on the road at second-seeded Elizabethtown in the semifinals next Wednesday, Feb. 23.
However, before that rematch, the No. 18/23 Cardinals will wrap-up the regular season on Saturday at No. 16/17 Scranton. Tip-off from John Long Center is at 4 p.m. The Royals have secured the top-seed in the 2022 Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a perfect 13-0 conference record.
