ASHLAND, Va. — The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team won nine of 14 total events to defeat Randolph-Macon, 154-108, on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Ava Snyder dominated the distance events, winning the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyles comfortably. She touched in 5:22.89 in the 500 free and went under 11 minutes in the 1000 free (10:59.28) to win by nearly 15 seconds.
Synder went three-for-three on the day, combining with Kaitlin Patt, Emily Blaskovich and Emma Gould to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Two-time Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week Katie Herman continued a scorching start to her freshman campaign with four more victories.
She claimed individual wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.54), 100-yard freestyle (55.77) and 200-yard freestyle (1:59.72) while teaming up with Angele Parral, Bella Mugno and Patt for a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The relay team, made up of all freshmen, swam 1:53.94 to defeat Randolph-Macon's A relay team by a second and a half.
Patt swam to individual victory in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 2:16.30, nearly nine full seconds quicker than the runner-up.
Parral also claimed an individual win, swimming a time of 1:01.46 to triumph in the 100-yard butterfly. Mugno finished second while Parral touched third in the 400-yard individual medley.
Catholic has now won three-straight meets to open up the 2022-23 season. The Cardinals will look to continue the momentum when they travel to Goucher next Saturday. The met will begin at 1 p.m.
