Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic outscored Gallaudet 39-13 in the second half to stay unbeaten and advance to the Battle of D.C. Championship Game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m with a 73-47 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Jesse Hafemeister scored 20 points on six-of-10 shooting to lead Catholic while Colby Martins finished with 15 points off the bench.
Tied 34-34 at the break, Catholic's defense held Gallaudet to just 5-30 shooting in the second half, forcing 13 turnovers in the process as well. The Cardinals knocked down 53.3 of their second-half shots with Martins' 10 points leading the way.
The Cardinals started the second half on a 13-7 run, taking a 47-41 lead with 13:43 remaining. Gallaudet would score just six points over the remainder of the game with Catholic ending the game on a 26-6 run.
Back-to-back Dan Buckley layups pushed the Catholic lead to double digits for the first time with 8:45 left. The Bison answered with a Brandon Chung layup to get it back to nine, but Martins hit a three 13 seconds later and the Catholic lead was never smaller than 10 the rest of the way.
Tommy Kelly knocked down a three with 5:34 to play, pushing the lead to 16. Kelly chipped in with another layup before a Cephas Wilson-Bahun jumper put Catholic up by 20 with 4:09 to play. Martins hit another three at the 3:11 mark to extend Catholic's lead to 68-45.
C.J. Ruoff scored his first career points on a corner three with 1:53 to play and added a layup a minute later.
The Bison's last made field goal came at the 7:08 mark, scoring just a pair of free throws the rest of the way.
Catholic forced 21 Gallaudet turnovers for the game, scoring 25 points off of turnovers. The Cardinals turned it over just nine times in the game. Catholic also held a 14-point advantage in points in the paint.
