Box Score TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University women's basketball senior Luca Mamula recorded her first career double-double to lead the Cardinals past Goucher Wednesday, 66-44, at Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
No. 18/25 Catholic (14-1, 5-1 LC) has now won seven-straight overall and 21 in-a-row over the Gophers. The team has won 11 consecutive at Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
Mamula gathered a career-high 12 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive end, and scored a season-high 17 points in 25 minutes of action. The forward also registered three steals.
Junior Rachel Bussanich was strong throughout, scoring 13 points and securing five rebounds.
Catholic started the game on a 10-2 run before the Gophers used a 17-10 run of their own to cut the lead to one. The Cardinals then finished the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 26-19 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals came out of the locker room flying, as senior Amanda Johnson scored the first five points of the third quarter. Mamula scored six points and gathered six rebounds while sophomore Kaleigh Beirne contributed two points, two rebounds and one assist in the quarter. Catholic outscored Goucher 20-5 in the quarter to put the game beyond reach.
Junior Erin Doherty scored seven points, claimed five rebounds, gathered two steals and grabbed one assist. Junior Sammie McCarter tallied six points off the bench, shooting 2-of-3 from beyond the three point line. She also gathered five rebounds.
Goucher (1-14, 0-7 LC) was led by junior Kyani Quarles who scored a team-high 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting. She also claimed seven offensive rebounds. Alayna McFadden added 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Catholic now turns its attention Susquehanna who visits Franny Murray Court on Saturday at 4 p.m. In the first meeting this season, Catholic secured a 25-point victory on Jan. 8.
