Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - All 17 players saw action and 14 scored at least two points as the Catholic University men's basketball team posted a convincing 84-40 victory over Goucher Wednesday on Franny Murray Court.
The Cardinals (11-4, 4-2 LC) posted their third-straight win overall and its seventh in-a-row at home against the Gophers.
The 44-point victory was Catholic's second-largest in 15 seasons in the Landmark Conference. The team posted a 47-point victory (105-58) over Moravian at home on Jan. 22, 2011.
In addition, the last time Catholic held an opponent to 40 points or less was Jan. 31, 2015 when the team posted a 78-38 road victory at Moravian.
Sophomore Tommy Kelly led three players in double figures with a game-high 16 points in 22 minutes. Sophomore Jesse Hafemeister added 15 points in 22 minutes while sophomore Jake Timby had 11 points. Timby also tied his career-high with six assists for the third time this season.
The trio combined for 42 points on 48.5-percent shooting (16-for-33), including 57.1-percent from three-point range (8-for-14).
The Cardinals held the Gophers (3-14, 0-7 LC) scoreless for the game's first seven-plus minutes as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead behind five points from Hafemeister and four from sophomore Colby Martins.
Catholic led by as many as 21 points with 4:18 remaining in the first half en route to a 35-21 halftime lead. Hafemeister scored 13 points in 14 first-half minutes. He also added five rebounds.
In the second half, the Cardinals scored 49 points while limiting Goucher to just 19. They shot an incredible 69.0 percent from the floor (20-for-29) and an even more impressive 72.7 percent from three-point range.
Catholic finished the game with a season-high 13 three-pointers, surpassing the 12 it had in an 80-60 road win at Messiah on Nov. 9.
After scoring a season-high eight points in a win at Moravian on Saturday, junior Pat Buckley had seven on Wednesday while his brother, freshman Dan Buckley, added a season-high five points. Meanwhile, sophomore Jack Fitzpatrick added a season-high five points as well as the Cardinals' bench totaled 30 of its 49 second-half points.
Catholic, who currently sits in third-place in the Landmark Conference standings, hosts Susquehanna on Saturday at 2 p.m. In the first meeting between the two back on Jan. 8 at O.W. Houts Gymnasium, the River Hawks edged out a 98-92 overtime victory in a game that featured seven ties and 17 lead changes.
