Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University men's basketball sophomore Jesse Hafemeister posted his third double double of the season as the Cardinals fell to Drew on Franny Murray Court Saturday, 71-65.
The Cardinals (8-4, 1-2 LC) had three players score in double figures for the ninth time in 12 games this season.
Hafemeister totaled his third double double in the last six games with 19 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore Colby Martins had 17 points and sophomore Tommy Kelly added 12.
The first half featured five ties and six lead changes as the two teams finished the first half tied at 29-29. Martins scored 12 of his 17 points in the first 20 minutes, but eight different players scored for the Rangers, including five with at least four points apiece.
Drew (9-5, 3-0 LC) also held a 7-0 advantage in second-chance points and a 9-0 edge in fastbreak points.
With the game tied at 42-42 with 13:07 remaining in the second half, the Rangers used a 19-8 run over the next eight-plus minutes to take their largest lead of the game, 61-50.
Seven unanswered points by Hafemeister pulled Catholic within three, 63-60 with 1:44 to play, but Drew was 6-of-6 from the free throw line over the final 25 seconds to secure the victory.
Despite shooting 36 percent from the floor in the second half, the Rangers scored 12 points off turnovers and had 11 second-chance points on nine offensive rebounds.
Hafemeister totaled 13 points and nine rebounds in the second half while freshman Cephas Wilson-Bahun had two of his career-high four blocks.
The defending Landmark Conference champions, Drew has won four of the last eight meetings with the Cardinals by six points or less.
Catholic looks to rebound Wednesday when it hosts Juniata beginning at 7 p.m.
