GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Catholic University men's tennis team opened their fall campaign on Saturday when the Cardinals travelled to Gettysburg College. The team was defeated 9-0 by the host Bullets
Junior Juan Gomez battled at No. 1 singles, but was ultimately defeated, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Ben Perks competed in his first collegiate match for the Cardinals, dropping a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 5 singles. Wrapping up singles competition was senior James Schmalz with a hard fought 6-2, 6-2 loss.
Gomez and sophomore Diego Robles paired up for the first time in their collegiate careers and competed against Gettysburg's Michael Feldman and Matt Rau in a tough 8-3 loss for the Cardinals.
The team will return to the court next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they host St. Mary's (Md.) at noon.
