WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's tennis junior Brooke Simonson sealed a 5-4 victory over Elizabethtown Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Championship.

The third-seeded Cardinals (6-2) are headed back to the semifinals for the second time in the last three tournaments after advancing to the championship match in 2018.

Catholic held match points before the Blue Jays posted wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles to tie the match at 4-4. After dropping the first set, Simonson battled back to take the next two, including the third in convincing fasion, 1-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Junior Bridget Burrus was a two-time winner on Saturday, partnering with sophomore Hanna Scali to post an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles before winning her first singles match of the season with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead.

Sophomore Abbey Cassidy improved to 5-1 in singles action this season with a straight sets win at No. 3 while seniors Grace Connell and Colleen McLaughlin posted their team-leading fourth doubles victory this year with an 8-4 win at No. 2 to give Catholic a 2-1 lead headed into singles play.

The Cardinals will now face second-seeded Scranton on the road in the semifinals on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The last time the two teams met was for the championship in 2018 with the Royals earning their league-leading fourth title, 5-1.

Earlier this season, Scranton posted a 7-2 victory at home on April 10. Simonson and Connell posted the lone wins for Catholic.
