Crowley Scores Nine Goals, Sax Earns First Win at Scranton

Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. - Catholic University men's lacrosse senior Kevin Crowley scored a program and Landmark Conference record nine goals as the Cardinals posted a convincing 24-10 victory at Scranton Saturday.

The victory also marked the first career win for head coach Jon Sax. A former player and assistant coach at Tufts, Sax came to Catholic after serving as the defensive coordinator at Division I Colgate.

Catholic (1-0, 1-0 LC) has won five of its last six regular season games while scoring at least 20 goals in the last three. The team's 24 goals are the second-most in school history, trailing only the 26 it scored in a 26-3 victory over Eastern University on March 26, 1999.

With a 14-goal victory, the Cardinals also posted their largest win in 14 games in the series against Scranton (1-1, 1-1 LC) dating back to the inaugural season of the Landmark Conference in 2008.

Crowley broke the team record for goals in a game set by Bennett Bradley in a 14-13 win over Elizabethtown on April 28, 2018.

Crowley scored nine goals on just 10 shots and registered his second career hat-trick in just six games as a Cardinal. His nine goals surpassed his season total from a year ago when he netted seven goals in five games.

Not to be outdone, junior Sean Baudo tied his career high with six goals, matching the mark he had in a 15-13 win versus Berry on March 13, 2019 in Clearwater, Fla.

Sophomore Luke D'Ambrogi also totaled six points, including a career-high four assists as he surpassed his seven-game total from 2020 when he had five points with two goals and three assists.

A total of 13 different players had at least one point for Catholic with 11 netting at least one goal. The Cardinals scored 14 goals in the third quarter, extending their lead to as many as 16 as they outscored the Royals, 14-2.

Junior Mike McShea won 17 face-offs and picked up 11 ground balls while sophomore Nic Pezone was credited with 12 saves and two caused turnovers.

The Cardinals travel to Elizabethtown for a 4 p.m. face-off on Wednesday.
