Cardinals Finish Regular Season Unbeaten, Secure Top-Seed

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team scored six unanswered goals to end the game and post a 16-10 victory over Elizabethtown Wednesday night at Carlini Field.

The Cardinals (6-0, 6-0 LC) finished a perfect regular season and earned their eighth appearance in the Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship and first as the No. 1 seed.

Catholic also posted its third win in the last four against the Blue Jays. The two teams have combined to win the last five conference championships dating back to 2015.

Senior Kevin Crowley totaled eight points with six goals and two assists while senior Vince Catenacci scored his first three goals of the season to post his seventh career hat-trick and first since Feb. 15, 2020.

Crowley totaled his fifth hat-trick as a Cardinal and his fourth in six games this season. He scored at least six goals for the third time this season and finished just one point shy of his career high set at Scranton in the season opener when he had nine goals.

Catholic led 10-6 with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter after reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week, junior Jack McGorry, netted his 12th goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Luke D'Ambrogi.

Elizabethtown (5-2, 5-2 LC) responded with four consecutive goals, including three in the final 1:48 of the third and one just 16 seconds into the fourth, to tie the game for the first time, 10-10.

However, the Cardinals scored the game's final six goals and forced six fourth-quarter turnovers to pull away for their sixth-straight win and 10th in the last 11 dating back to last season.

Crowley had a hand in three of the six tallies with two goals and one assist, starting the rally with his fifth goal of an assist from sophomore Ryan Carroll with 11:31 remaining.

Catenacci completed his hat-trick with 9:30 left before junior Mike McShea won the faceoff and scored just 10 seconds later for his third of the season.

Crowley scored his sixth at 7:29 and sophomore Max Schwarz tallied his third of the season with 3:00 to play before Crowley returned the favor to Carroll who scored on a diving, behind-the-back goal to cap the scoring with just under two minutes remaining.

Nine different Cardinals found the back of the next Wednesday while sophomore Nic Pezone and senior Griffin Smith led the defense with 13 saves and four caused turnovers, respectively. Pezone finished one save shy of his career high set in his first collegiate start at Southern Virginia on Feb. 11, 2020.

As the top seed in the Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship, Catholic receives a bye into the semifinals where they will host the winner between fourth-seeded Susquehanna vs. fifth-seeded Moravian next Wednesday, May 5 at Carlini Field.
