TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's tennis team dropped a tight Landmark Conference match on the road at Goucher Wednesday, 5-4.
Freshman Allan Van Nostrand and senior Frankie Fortunati dropped a closely contested match at No. 1 doubles, 8-7. After seniors Christian Papalambros and Dom Mazzeo picked up the win at No. 3 doubles victory by forfeit, the Cardinals trailed 2-1 going into singles.
Fortunati also battled at No. 1 singles, but ultimately fell in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 while Van Nostrand dominated at No. 2, winning 6-2, 6-1.
After Catholic dropped the next two singles matches, Mazzeo picked up a victory at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1, before the Cardinals picked up their last point by forfeit at No. 6 singles.
Catholic returns to action on Saturday when Goucher makes the return trip to Washington, D.C. for a 12 p.m. match at the Marty and Jone Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
