Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University softball senior Juliet Lodes went 6-for-7 with three doubles and two home runs on Sunday to lead the Cardinals to a sweep over Elizabethtown on the road, 5-3 and 10-0.
Catholic (11-3, 11-3 LC) has won nine out of its last 11 against the Blue Jays, including five of six on the road.
In addition to an .857 batting average and 2.286 slugging percentage, Lodes also had five RBIs and four runs. In four games against the Blue Jays this weekend, she went 9-for-13 with five doubles, two home runs and six RBIs.
Senior Makayla Czan went 5-for-6 on Sunday with two runs and two RBIs, also finishing the weekend with nine hits in 13 at-bats for a .692 batting average.
Catholic 5, Elizabethtown 3 (8 innings)
The Cardinals took an early lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by sophomore Heather Berberich that scored Lodes for a 1-0 advantage.
Elizabethtown (3-16, 3-16 LC) responded with three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Kaitlyn Witmer.
Trailing by two in the top of the seventh, the duo of Lodes and Berberich struck again with Lodes hitting a solo home run to left center before Berberich doubled to left to score senior McKenzie Plante, tying the game at 3-3.
After senior Allie Lajeunesse retired the Blue Jays in order in the bottom of the seventh, Lodes accounted for both game-winning runs in the eighth, driving in senior Giselle Diaz with a double to right center before scoring on a double to left center by Lajeunesse.
Lajeunesse then picked up her fourth win in five decisions this season with a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth.
Lodes went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs while Berberich was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
With the win, Catholic improved to 2-0 in extra-inning games this season.
Catholic 10, Elizabethtown 0 (5 innings)
The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by Lodes' second home run of the season, a three-run shot to left.
Catholic added five more runs in the top of the fourth, keyed by a two-run double from Diaz and a solo home run by sophomore Sammy Phillips, her second of the season.
Diaz capped the scoring with an RBI-single in the top of the sixth to score freshman Kaitlyn Murphy.
Lodes, Philips and Czan combined for nine of the team's 11 hits with three each while Diaz was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Lodes also drove in three, going 3-for-3 with a one double and one home run.
Playing in her 100th career game, Czan also went 3-for-3 while scoring two runs.
Freshman Justina Benvenuto scattered four hits over 5.0 innings to improve her record to 2-1 this season.
Catholic begins a four-game series against Scranton next Saturday on the road at Magis Field. First pitch is at 1 p.m. The Royals currently sit in second place in the Landmark Conference standings, one game ahead of the Cardinals.
