Cardinals Continue Onslaught in 22-8 Win at Susquehanna

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team scored the game's first seven goals and never looked back en route to posting a 22-8 road win at Susquehanna Wednesday at Sassafras Field.

The Cardinals (3-0, 3-0 LC), who are receiving votes in the latest USILA Division III Coaches Poll, have now scored 20 or more goals in five consecutive games dating back to last season and have now totaled 74 in three games this season for an average of nearly 25 per game.

Senior Kevin Crowley, who scored a program and Landmark Conference record nine goals in the season opener at Scranton, tallied seven more on Wednesday while junior Sean Baudo added four to go along with two assists for six points.

The duo, who has accounted for almost half of the team's goals this season with 35, combined for four of the seven with Crowley netting his fourth career hat-trick and third-straight just 4:21 into the first quarter.

The River Hawks (2-5, 2-3 LC) got on the board with 1:34 left in the quarter before Catholic scored the first four of the second to push its lead to 11-1. Crowley added his fourth while junior Grady Kuhn scored his first two of the season.

Kuhn now has three career goals with all of them coming on Sassafras Field after he scored the first of his career there on April 18, 2019.

A total of 14 Cardinals had a point, including 12 with at least one goal. Junior Mike McShea netted his first of the season off an assist from junior Collin Stein just 49 seconds into the contest.

Catholic scored back-to-back goals in under 30 seconds three times. Crowley and McShea scored 26 seconds apart to begin the game while Crowley and junior Tommy Welch scored two goals in 21 seconds to give the visitors a 5-0 lead. Later in the third quarter, Crowley and Baudo each had tallies in only 19 seconds as the Cardinals took their largest lead, 17-2.

Catholic totaled 64 shots, the team's highest since March 8, 2016 when it had 73 in a 21-10 win over Beloit at Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals also picked up 57 ground balls which were the most since they had 58 in a 7-3 win at Hood on Feb. 18, 2012.

McShea won 18-of-26 face-offs and had seven ground balls while junior Tynan Hillery had five ground balls, two assists, and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Nic Pezone had a season-high 12 saves and posted his seventh win in 11 career starts.

Catholic plays three of its last four regular season games at home, beginning on Saturday when it hosts Drew at Carlini Field. Face-off is at 2 p.m.
