WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University women's tennis team dropped a Landmark Conference match to Moravian Saturday at the Marty and Jone Dowd Family Tennis Courts, 8-1.
The loss was the first for the Cardinals (3-1, 3-1 LC) in their last six matches dating back to last season.
Reigning Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, sophomore Abbey Cassidy, posted the team's lone win to extend her winning streak to four at No. 4 singles this season. After dropping the first set, 6-1, she battled back to take the second, 7-5, before clinching the victory with a 10-8 win in the third.
Cassidy improved her career singles record to 8-2, including 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Meanwhile, Cassidy and junior Brooke Simonson suffered their first loss at No. 1 doubles this season, falling to Emma and Mary Angle, 8-4.
The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action on Thursday at Elizabethtown in match that was rescheduled from tomorrow due to the rain forecasted in the region.
