Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. - Catholic University men's basketball sophomore Jake Timby scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Cardinals to an 80-60 win over Messiah Tuesday at Hitchcock Arena.
Catholic (2-0) has won two of the three meetings with the Falcons since 2006, avenging a 78-75 overtime loss at home on Nov. 12, 2019.
Timby, who had scored in double figures just twice in 10 career games entering tonight, was 6-of-10 from three-point range, becoming the first Cardinal to make at least six three-pointers in a game since Collin Hartmann went 6-for-9 in a 60-49 victory over Juniata at home on Jan. 15, 2020.
Timby is the fourth different Cardinal to score 20 points or more in the team's 10 over the last two seasons. Sophomore Colby Martins had three 20-point games last season while sophomore Jesse Hafemeister had two and sophomore Tommy Kelly had one.
Martins added 13 points on Tuesday and was 3-of-5 from three-point range while Kelly had 11 points with one three-pointer and a career-high seven assists.
As a team, Catholic had 12 three-pointers, the team's highest total since it also had 12 on Jan. 15, 2020.
Messiah (0-1) scored four of the first six points to take an early lead just 2:05 into the game before the Cardinals responded with eight of the next 10 to take their first lead. They would never trail again.
Timby surpassed his previous career high of 10 points in the first half as he had 15 points on five three-pointers. Catholic attempted 16 three-pointers in the first half and made seven en route to taking its largest lead, 43-35 at the half.
