Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six, 75-62 at Stevens

Box Score

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Four players scored in double figures as the Catholic University men's basketball team posted a 75-62 non-conference road victory at Stevens Saturday.

With the win, the Cardinals (6-0) have started the season with six-straight wins for the first time since 2011-12. They also snapped a three-game losing streak to the Ducks.

Sophomore Jake Timby had a team-high 17 points, nine of which came from three-point range where he was 3-for-4. Sophomore Tommy Kelly added 16 points to go along with six steals and four assists.

Catholic led by as many as 17 points on a three-pointer by Timby with 17:51 remaining in the second half before the Ducks used a 22-9 run to cut their deficit to three with 10:30 to play.

Leading 63-58 with 3:50 left, the Cardinals closed the game by scoring 12 of the final 16 points, holding Stevens without a field goal the rest of the way. The Ducks finished the game 1-for-7 from the floor, including 0-for-5 in the final four minutes.

Meanwhile, Catholic, who led by six with 1:01 remaining, sealed their sixth consecutive victory by going 7-for-10 from the free throw line in the final minute.

Timby scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half while Kelly and sophomore Jesse Hafemeister added seven each. Hafemeister finished with 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds, just missing his first career double double. Saturday marked the third time in 14 career games that he finished just one rebound shy of a double double.

Freshman Justin Green also missed his first career double double by one rebound, totaling 10 points and nine rebounds, both career highs.

Senior Frank Lumaj had six points and a season-high six rebounds while senior Sam Golden added five points and eight rebounds.

The Cardinals have a nine-day layoff for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 1 when they host crosstown rival Marymount (Va.) on Franny Murray Court. Game time is at 7 p.m.
