SCRANTON, Pa. - The Catholic University women's swimming & diving team fell to Scranton Saturday at the Byron Aquatic Center, 195-99.
In their second meet of the season, the Cardinals were led by taking the top two spots in both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle.
Senior Kelly Smith, who won her first individual gold in the 1,650-yard freestyle a year ago, finished first in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:16.04. She then finished second in the 500 free in a time of 5:31.10.
Freshman Ava Snyder won the 500 free by touching the wall in 5:27.39 while freshman Emma Ruffo finished second in the 1,000 free with time of 11:24.14. Snyder also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.49.
In the 100-yard backstroke, junior Alexa Hipp was second with a time of 1:01.49 followed by Smith in third at 1:03.30 and freshman Kellsey Robinson in fourth at 1:04.82.
Hipp also finished second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:13.89 with senior Bridget Roach finishing third in 2:23.17 while junior Maddie Doucette finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.58.
Senior Madeline Seeley-Hacker set a new personal best on the 1-meter diving board, finishing fourth with a score of 169.60 which shattered her previous best of 141.82. She also finished second in the 3-meter.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Robinson, Doucette, freshman Jordyn DiCamillo and junior Emma Gould came in second with a time of 1:56.50.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13 in their home debut when they host Landmark Conference rival Goucher at 1 p.m.
