PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Highlighted by a 17th-place finish in the championship eights, the Catholic University men's rowing team competed at the Head of the Schuylkill Saturday.
With temperatures in the upper 50s and wind out of the north around 11 mph, the Cardinals traversed the 2.5-mile course on the Schuylkill River just outside the city of Philadelphia.
In the championship eights, the first varsity eight finished 17th with a time of 12:09.6, just ahead of Villanova who crossed the line in 12:10.1. The crew finished ahead of Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) rivals St. Mary's (Md.) and Washington College.
The second varsity eight came in 33rd with a time of 13:15.8.
In the novice eights, the Cardinals crossed the line in 14:48.3 to place 17th. They were the third-fastest Division III team behind Rochester and Washington College.
Catholic began the day by finishing 13th in the novice fours with a time of 16:21.0, finishing ahead of teams from Pittsburgh, Duke and Lafayette.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Head of the Occoquan in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
