Cardinals Send 1V8+ to the Grand Finals After Good Showing at Historic Dad Vail

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Catholic men's rowing team returned to the Cooper River to compete in the 87th annual Dad Vail championships. Both boats competed in the Men's Club/DIII Varsity 8+ Time Trial 1 on the opening day of the regatta.

Caleb Gascoyne served as the coxswain in the first Varsity 8+ boat. Jack Koubek sat as the stroke with Sean Farrelly in the bow. Other members of the boat were Alan Nicholas (7), Jonah Stofko (6), Jeffrey Cone (5), Thomas Robertson (4), Franklin Hudak (3), and Luis Piñero (2). In the time trials, the boat placed fifth in the time trials with a time of 06:04.053. 

The second Varsity 8+ boat had Matthew Blomgren as the coxswain. Owen Spelman was the stroke with Mason Zajac as the bow. Other members of the boat were Adam Cagno (7), Peter Huber (6), Bryce Wnek (5), Cameron McKay (4), James Pickell (3), and Adam Driscoll (2). The crew placed seventh in their time trials with their time of 06:39.323. 

With the top six teams making the finals, the Cardinals will send their 1V8+ squad to the Men's Club/DIII Varsity Eight - Grand Final at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9th. Jeffery Cone will also race tomorrow in the Men's PR3 Single Scull Final at 11:45 a.m. on the Cooper River.
