Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - St. Mary's (Md.) outscored the Catholic University men's lacrosse team by five in the second half to rally from a three-goal second quarter deficit en route to an 11-7 victory over the Cardinals Saturday at Carlini Field.
Catholic (2-4) was outscored 6-2 in the third quarter and held scoreless in the fourth.
Sophomore Sean Baudo led the Cardinals with four points, totaling two goals and two assists. Senior Vince Catenacci also scored twice while sophomore Collin Stein had two points with a goal and an assist.
After Catenacci gave Catholic a 5-2 lead with 11:38 remaining in the second quarter, the Seahawks (3-1) scored nine of the game's final 11 goals to post their ninth victory in 10 meetings against their former Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) rival.
Reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Joey Rockovich, had a first quarter assist to extend his point steak to six games. He has had at least one point in 20 of 22 career games at Catholic.
The Cardinals scored three goals in a span of 33 seconds in the first quarter as they opened their three-goal lead. Junior Kevin Crowley started the scoring with his third goal of the season with 1:13 to play before Stein netted his first of the year just 13 seconds later and freshman Jack McGorry added his 13th of the season with 40 seconds left.
Freshman Nic Pezone had four saves while freshman Jackson Powers and sophomore Tynan Hillery each had two caused turnovers.
Catholic outshot the Seahawks, 37-25, and won 14-of-22 faceoffs, but just 3-of-9 in the decisive third quarter. The Cardinals also had just 14 turnovers.
The Cards wrap-up their three-game homestand next Saturday, March 7 when they host Mary Washington. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
