Cardinals Open Spring Season With 9-0 Loss at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The Catholic University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule Friday with a 9-0 road loss to Salisbury at the SU Indoor Tennis Center.

The Cardinals (3-3) have yet to win on the road this season while going 3-0 at home.

Salisbury (4-0) began the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. The team of juniors Grace Connell and Colleen McLaughlin lost for just the second time in six matches this season, falling at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.

Paired together for the first time, the team of sophomores Brooke Simonson and Bridget Burrus fell in the closest contested match at No. 1 doubles, 8-5.

Sophomore Olivia Sensenbrenner lost her first singles match this season with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6 to Kayla Allen. Burrus also dropped her first singles contest, winning the most points for the Cards at No. 3 before falling to Hannah Baxter, 6-0, 6-3.

The team's leader in singles victories with three, Simonson fell to 2-2 at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to Annika Kezman.

Catholic returns to action on Sunday, March 8 when it takes on Haverford at the Evian Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C., on spring break.
