Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University men's basketball senior Collin Hartmann totaled 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Cardinals to a 60-46 victory over Juniata in a Landmark Conference contest Wednesday night at Franny Murray Court.
Catholic (5-9, 1-2 LC) picked up its first conference win of the season with its third-straight win against the Eagles. The Cardinals are now 12-3 at home versus Juniata since joining the Landmark Conference in 2008.
Hartmann just missed his second career double double, but did post his second career 20-point game. He scored a career-high 21 points in the season-opener against Messiah while totaling his first career double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-61 victory over Misericordia on December 28.
With the score tied at 2-2, the Cardinals used a 9-0 run, to take an 11-2 advantage with 15:27 remaining in the first half. They would never trail again.
Juniata (3-11, 0-3 LC) cut the lead to one, 22-21 with 4:41 left. However, Catholic closed the half with a 13-0 run, highlighted by eight points from Hartmann, to take a 14-point halftime lead, 35-21.
Hartmann finished the half with 11 points and was 4-of-5 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
The Cardinals scored six of the first eight points of the second half to stretch its lead to as many as 18 and never let it slip below eight the rest of the way.
Harmann added nine more points and six rebounds in 17 the second half while senior Riley Hayes had five points and eight rebounds to finish with eight rebounds and a game-high 12 rebounds in just 24 minutes. He was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
Senior Thomas Huerter had nine rebounds and a career-high six assists. He was one rebound shy of his career high set against Drew on December 7.
The two teams combined for 43 turnovers and 45 points off turnovers while Catholic held a commanding 45-26 advantage in rebounds.
Of their 46 points, the Eagles scored 34 off the bench and 28 in the paint.
The Cardinals host rival Scranton on Saturday. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
