Cardinals Earn First Landmark Win, 7-2 at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - After the Cardinals swept all three doubles matches, Catholic University men's tennis senior Ted Tiu posted a straight sets victory at No. 3 singles to seal the team's first Landmark Conference victory of the season Sunday, 7-2 at Elizabethtown.

Catholic (3-8, 1-3 LC) won the first five matches before the Blue Jays won their first match at No. 2 singles.

Tiu and sophomore Frankie Fortunati won their second-staight conference match at No. 2 doubles, 8-5 over Colby Martin and Evan Winters while junior Kyle Weber and freshman Paul Smith also won their second at No. 3, posting an 8-4 victory over Tristan Boheim and Alec Schneider.

Both Fortunati and Tiu were double winners on the day as Fortunati won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Tiu claimed a 6-4, 6-0 vctory at No. 3 singles. Senior Matt Pham had two wins as well, teamming with sophomore Eric Macarski for an 8-7 (8-6) win at No. 3 doubles before beating Tristan Boheim at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Fortunati and Tiu have combined for 11 of the Cardinals' 21 singles win on the season and four doubles victories.

Elizabethtown (1-8, 0-5 LC) posted wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.

Catholic returns home on Wednesday when it hosts a Landmark Conference contest versus Goucher at The Dowd Family Tennis Courts beginning at 3 p.m.
