WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic University softball team split with Washington College (6-13) in a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday.

Game 1: Washington College 2, Catholic 1

Catholic was led by sophomore Juliet Lodes, going 2 for 3 at the plate and recording the only RBI of the game. Junior Sabrina Scott got the start for the Cardinals and was relieved by sophomore Allie Lajeunesse.

The Shorewomen got out to a quick start, scoring in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.

Game 2: Catholic 8, Washington College 0

The first two innings were evenly played by both teams, with each team facing the minimum six batters.

In the bottom of the third Catholic got their offense going recording two singles, from Harrington and freshman Bella Ronca. But with two outs and bases loaded the Cardinals were left stranded.

The fourth inning proved to be another pitchers duel with each team going three up, three down.

Both runners advanced on a passed ball before sophomore Taylor Forgen drew a walk to load the bases. Junior Sabrina Scott came up with a clutch single down the right field line scoring Harrington and Ronca.

The Shorewomen got their first and only hit on the game in the top of the sixth with two outs.

The bats came alive for the Cards in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on six hits. With bases loaded junior Kacie Badolato singled down the right field line scoring sophomore Makayla Czan, who reached on a base hit bunt, and sophomore Sophie Maccarone who entered as a pinch-runner after sophomore Allie Lajeunesse led the inning off with a single up the middle.

After a pitching change for Washington College, Harrington singled up the middle to score sophomore Giselle Diaz. In another bases loaded situation the Cards executed, scoring their sixth run off of a Forgen single to center field. Then Scott drew a walk to score Harrington. The Cardinals batted through their entire lineup before they took an 8-0 advantage on a throwing error by the third baseman to score Ronca.
