ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Catholic University women's soccer team fell to the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks on a last-minute penalty kick goal in double overtime Wednesday afternoon. 

The Cardinals (4-3-2) competed evenly with the Seahawks, and took more control as the game went on. The Cards created three corner kick opportunities in the second overtime while St. Mary's took none. A penalty kick chance in the 110th minute of play allowed St. Mary's (5-5) to score with just forty-five seconds left to play.

The contest was Catholic's fourth that's gone into overtime periods. 

Junior Elizabeth Johnson led the Cards with six shots, three on goal. Grace Boras, Taylor Porcello, and Gabby Demarest all followed with two shots each. Catholic matched St. Mary's with six shots on goal in the match. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Nina Fernandez made five saves in the effort. 

Up next for the Cards is a conference matchup on the road against the Drew Rangers on Saturday, September 29 at 4 p.m.
