Cardinals Upset Moravian to Advance to Landmark Championship

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America women's tennis team pulled the upset at Moravian in the Landmark Conference Semifinals as the No. 3-seeded Cardinals defeated the No. 2 Greyhounds, 5-4.

The Cards move on to the Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday, May 5 at No. 1 Scranton with the start time set at 1 p.m.

Catholic's No. 1 Jenna Gietl led the way for the Cardinals as she was a two-time winner.

Gietl picked up the victory in the top singles match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and teamed with junior Erin Cole for an impressive W in No. 1 doubles, 8-1.

Cole also became a double-up winner as she was victorious in the No. 3 singles bout, 6-1, 7-5.

The Cardinals also got wins in singles action from No. 2 Sarah MacLean, 6-4, 6-4, and No. 6 Grace Connell, 6-0, 6-0.

The Cards now improve to 13-8 overall after a 5-2 Landmark slate.
