No. 15 Cardinals Fall to No. 9 Eagles, 15-12

WASHINGTON - No. 15 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team dropped its midweek game to No. 9 the University of Mary Washington, 15-12 on Wednesday night.

Catholic sophomore Nanci Hernandez made 10 saves and racked up a team-high four groundballs in the nationally ranked contest. The Cardinals forced 11 turnovers on the Eagles as junior Erin Dugan along with sophomores Julia Clementi and Katie Bradbury each caused two.

The Cardinals won 13 draw controls during the game, freshman Emily Bynoe won four and Dugan grabbed three.

Senior Nicolette Crisalli tossed in five goals for the Cardinals including 2-of-3 from the eight-meter mark. Junior Jessica Lyons tallied three goals of her own while sophomore Ally Criscuolo registered two. Clementi and junior Megan Ellis each added one.

Crisalli ripped in the first goal of the night before the Eagles answered with three. Crisalli and Clementi hit back-to-back free position conversions to tie the game followed by scores from Criscuolo and Ellis to take a 5-3 Catholic advantage through the first 15 minutes.

Mary Washington put four more in the cage and Lyons scored Catholic's final two of the half for a 7-7 tie at the intermission.

The Eagles opened the second half with four unanswered before Crisalli hit two-in-a-row. Mary Washington scored next to take a 12-9 advantage but back-to-back goals from Crisalli and Criscuolo brought the Cardinals within one.

Mary Washington managed four more in the final 15 minutes broken up by a goal from Lyons with just under four minutes on the clock but the clock expired before Catholic could rally.

The Cardinals hit the road to close out their regular season at Elizabethtown College on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
